2026 FALL COURSE
A four-week introductory course covering fundamental taiko
playing techniques and stances, the vocal learning of rhythms
and hands on drumming experience

Goals: To learn fundamental taiko drumming techniques on an upright stand. No previous experience is necessary.
Must be 14 years of age or older.
What you will do:
- Learn body positioning and how to strike taiko drums on an upright stand;
- Learn fundamental techniques, form, and how to vocalize and play rhythms;
- Create a group song together;
- Use kiai (shouts) to support the drumming;
- Practice basic care and maintenance of drums and other equipment;
Format: Each class includes: stretching, strengthening, and vocal exercises; 120-130 minutes of drumming; and a
guided cool down. All students will help set up and pack up drums.
Instruction: The course will be taught by members of Katari Taiko.
